Open spread (page 054) of the commemorative volume

纪念画册内页(第054页):巴布亚新几内亚工作留影,「冶金战线献青春」章节
photo c. 1990s–2000s

Description

Open spread, page 054, of the commemorative volume. A color snapshot shows the subject (an Angang metallurgist, name withheld) photographed outdoors during an overseas posting in Papua New Guinea; the running chapter head reads 冶金战线献青春 ('Dedicating one's youth to the metallurgical front'). Chinese steelworkers' overseas assignments are a little-recorded side of the industry's later decades.

Significance to the comparison

Evidence that Anshan steel careers could arc far beyond the steel city — an overseas chapter in a worker's self-compiled record, the kind of memory the questionnaires say is easiest to lose.
